About EGAPP
Evaluation of Genomic Applications in Practice and Prevention (EGAPP) is a three-year model project developed by the National Office of Public Health Genomics at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). RTI International provides technical expertise and support for the project. The goal of the EGAPP Project is to support the first phases of a coordinated, systematic, and sustainable process for evaluating genomic applications in transition from research to clinical and public health practice. More information about the background and objectives of the project can be found on the NOPHG website and in the May 2005 Update.
Project Activities
Expert Meeting
In April, 2005, twelve members of the independent EGAPP Working Group were announced. A thirteenth member was named in June, 2005. The Roster of Working Group Members has biographical sketches for each.
May, 2005 Meeting of Working Group
The first meeting of the Working Group was held in Atlanta on May 18-19, 2005. Key discussion points and conclusions from the January, 2005 Expert Meeting on Evidence-Based Review of Genomic Applications provided a starting point for Working Group deliberations on methodology to be used for evidence reviews, potential topics for review, and development of a comprehensive list of potential medical and social outcomes to be considered for each topic. Each member joined one of three subcommittees (Topics, Methods, Outcomes) that continued to work between meetings by teleconference and reported on their activities at the July meeting.
July, 2005 Meeting of Working Group
The second meeting of the Working Group was held in Atlanta on July 18-19, 2005 . Following subcommittee reports, the Working Group continued discussions on methods, outcomes and topics. Two topics were selected for evidence review.
Preliminary titles are:
- Screening for Hereditary Nonpolyposis Colorectal Cancer (HNPCC) in Newly Diagnosed Colorectal Cancer Patients
- Testing for Cytochrome P450 Polymorphisms in Adults with Non-Psychotic Depression Prior to Treatment with Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs)
The next meeting of the Working Group will take place in Atlanta , GA
October 17-18, 2005.
